Lyrics
What the Stars Gave
by Monique McCreary, 2021
Verse I:
In 1986 Halley's Comet flew high above her head
She felt butterflies in her stomach and knew it was time to go
With February’s cold breeze she had spent much time alone
And wondered if she had strength to care for a life so delicate
Pre-Chorus:
The moon beams broke her glance
And she was nervous to know….
Chorus:
If her child would follow her through the darkest nights
And if she could give her the life she deserved
Would she always come out on the brighter side?
With what the stars gave to her
Verse 2:
She'd watch her catch twinkling fireflies and fish in their small pond
She'd see her move with the direction of her constellation
While painting the world with her own lovely imagination
She’d start to see that being a mother was for her all along
Pre-Chorus:
The moon beams broke her glance
And she was nervous to know….
Chorus:
If her child would follow her into the darkest nights
And if she could give her the life she deserved
Would she always come out on the brighter side?
With what the stars gave to her
Bridge:
She burned through her selfish needs
Faster than the cosmic speed
She thinks she knows..
Yeah, she thinks she knows
Chorus:
That her child followed her through the darkest nights
And she gave her life she deserved
That she always came out on the brighter side
With what the stars gave to her
